About rank promotions at The Charland Institute
We have a stripe test each month where our junior and
Karate Kid students can test for a stripe toward their next rank. The
stripes are earned in Red, Blue, then Gold order. Karate kids are promoted
during the stripe test one month after they earn the Blue stripe (there is
no Gold stripe for Karate Kids). Junior students are promoted at the formal
grading on the Friday night of the same week that they earn the gold stripe.
It is not unusual for students to take 2 months to earn a stripe especially
if they have missed some classes due to illness or vacation.
Parents and students should keep in mind, that while we require that they
have at least 8 classes per month attended to be eligible to test, they can
have 20 classes and still not test if they are having trouble with the
curriculum of the rank they are trying to achieve. The curriculum does get
harder as one moves up in rank.
If your attendance is kept up, there is a good chance that you will move up
in rank on time, simply because you will improve through repetition.
Remember, “repetition is the mother of skill”. This is where increased
dedication comes in, if you want to move up in rank, dedication, goal
setting and a positive attitude are paramount. This is a perfect time of
year to set your martial arts goals!
