Celebrating our 16th year serving Watertown and its
surrounding towns.
The Charland Institute is the largest martial arts facility in New England
(we think). With 3 workout floors, we offer Karate, Kajukido, Kardio Kickboxing.
Local Cheerleading teams use our facility for training because of it's high
ceilings.
Karate is a great source of exercise for adults, as well as getting an
education in self-defense and tournament sparring (if you choose).
Kids simply find it fun while they get all of the mental benefits their parents
want them to develop. We teach a lesson of the week at the Charland Institute,
based on these mental benefits. Therefore confidence, self esteem, standing up
to peer pressure and many more are actually taught here. All students must learn
the student creed;
I must develop myself
in a positive manner, and avoid anything that could reduce my mental
growth or physical health.
I must develop self discipline in
order to bring out the best in myself and others.
I must use common sense before self
defense and never be abusive or offensive.
This is a black belt school, we are dedicated, we are motivated, we are
on a quest to be our best. Tang Soo!!
The Charland Institute starts children as early as four years old and up to
and through 104 years old. We have a special program just for ages 4-6 called
Karate Kids. Most people start their children off in our trial lesson program.
At only $19.95 its a great deal and it includes an official karate uniform. This
gives the child a chance to see what karate classes are like, and also gives the
parents a chance to see how we do things around here. We believe in teaching the
martial arts through positive reinforcement. That is to say that we focus on the
positive things the children are displaying in class and encourage more behavior
like it.
